چکیده

A new layered multicast scheme known as loss differentiated multicast congestion control architecture is proposed to provide effective congestion control in heterogeneous multicast networks. It is comprised of two components, the random early detection assisted layered multicast (RALM) and the layer marking discovery protocol (LMDP). The RALM protocol utilises the packet marking and priority dropping mechanisms of the differentiated services architecture to differentiate losses in the layers of a layered multicast session. The LMDP protocol assists in the discovery of the optimal subscription levels to which packets of the layers should be marked. By marking the layers packets appropriately and dropping them differently during congestion, the RALM protocol guides receivers to their stable optimal subscription levels that satisfy their bandwidth requirements while providing multirate max–min fairness in the

Performance Evaluation of Layered Multicast Congestion Control Protocols: FLID-DL vs. PLM

Packet-pair receiver-driven cumulative Layer Multicast (PLM) and Fair Layer Increase Decrease with Dynamic Layering (FLID-DL) are two of the recently proposed receiver-driven layered multicast congestion control protocols improved from the famous layered multicast protocols (RLM and RLC). Both have been evaluated by their authors and claim a few advances for layered multicast congestion control...

Packet loss probability for DiffServ over IP and MPLS reliable homogeneous multicast networks

Multicasting has become increasingly important with the emergence of Internet-based applications such as IP telephony, audio/video conferencing, distributed databases and software upgrading. IP multicasting is an efficient way to distribute information from a single source to multiple destinations at different locations. In practice IP is considered as a layer 3 protocol. Multiprotocol Label Sw...

Joint local delivery and congestion control framework for reliable multicast

The use of a server-based loss recovery technique for reliable multicast can significantly improve the system performance in terms of loss recovery latency and bandwidth consumption. Appropriate congestion control mechanisms are necessary to provide fairness and to maintain a high network throughput and link utilisation. In reliable multicast protocol design the loss recovery associated with da...

The Loss Path Multiplicity Problem in Multicast Congestion Control

An important concern for source-based multicast congestion control algorithms is the loss path multiplicity (LPM) problem that arises because a transmitted packet can be lost on one or more of the many end-to-end paths in a multicast tree. Consequently, if a multicast source’s transmission rate is regulated according to loss indications from receivers, the rate may be completely throttled as th...

Rate Control Over Repair Traffic in Multicast

Although the rate of repair traffic is generally well controlled in unicast, little attention has been paid to the rate control over repair traffic in the current literature of distributed multicast loss recovery. In this paper we show that rate control over repair traffic in multicast is necessary for traffic stability and congestion alleviation. We also propose a general method for controllin...
